Back to School Smiles
Fall is the perfect time to think about making changes that will last far beyond the next school year. When tailored to the age and needs of the patient, orthodontic treatment can identify early indications of tooth spacing and alignment issues and create a plan for intervention. If the issue has gone past the point of early intervention, a trusted orthodontist can plan for braces or Invisalign.
Most children begin losing their baby teeth at age 6 and gain a full set of adult teeth by the age of 13. Bad habits formed during these years can cause expensive consequences in the years to follow, but they can be eliminated during this time, too. Tongue thrusting and thumb-sucking alter the teeth and resulting bite, so stopping these habits early on is important for long term dental health.
Scheduling an appointment with an experienced orthodontist will also allow you to track and address warning signs before they worsen. Uneven or crowded teeth are early indications that your child may need orthodontic solutions at some point.
Once your child’s permanent teeth have come in, issues like overcrowding, spaces between teeth, and difficulty chewing may start to develop. While your teenage son or daughter might not care about their dental health, they’re likely to want a straight smile for yearbook pictures and photos with friends throughout the year. Ultimately, your goals will align with theirs in the need for orthodontic treatment. Teens who don’t like the idea of metal braces may find options like clear braces and Invisalign more appealing.
When your child or teen goes back to school this fall, make sure you have a plan for their oral health. This is when they’re forming the habits that will follow them throughout their lives, and early intervention can result in a lifetime of beautiful, healthy smiles. Call Adirondack Orthodontics to schedule an appointment so we can assess their teeth and learn more about their habits; we can create a plan for a stunning smile that parents and their kids will love!

A Beautiful and Healthy Smile is Not a DIY Project
Renovate your own bathroom? Sure, you can do that. Change your car’s oil? Of course. Do your own home landscaping? Sounds good.
But you wouldn’t think of trying to diagnose your own illness or perform surgery on yourself. It’s no different with orthodontics: creating a beautiful and healthy smile is a project best left to the professionals.
You’ve probably seen companies offering do-it-yourself braces, and with the ease of getting started with a few internet clicks, it’s tempting to consider. But it’s important to understand the risks involved, as well as the benefits of being treated by a specialist who is educated and trained in orthodontics.
Without being seen by an orthodontist, a patient has no way to know if they have underlying problems that could be exacerbated by braces – tooth decay, abscessed teeth, or gum infections. With unsupervised care, we have already seen damage resulting in tooth extractions, bite problems, and potentially dangerous infections. And without a personal assessment and regular monitoring, a patient has no idea if their DIY braces will actually work, or instead cause additional issues.
Orthodontists are experts in diagnosing individual cases, which differ for each person. They know the mechanics behind how bones, teeth, and gums shift and grow during treatment. They assess progress on a regular basis and adjust treatment as needed to produce better results, and they are there for the lifelong retention phase. In short, orthodontists are the only people who can ensure an effective and safe experience.
Your smile is too important to be a DIY project, and your health is too vital to trust a computer algorithm over a caring, educated, and trained orthodontist. Call us today to schedule your complimentary consultation, and let us show you the best way to achieve a beautiful smile that will last a lifetime.
Invest in Yourself this Tax Season
Spring is the perfect time to make an investment in yourself, and if you’re receiving a tax refund, the timing is even better. There’s no better place to start than with your smile. An orthodontic treatment specifically tailored to your individual needs and desires will keep you smiling long after the tax season.
At Adirondack Orthodontics, we understand that orthodontic care is one of the most valuable investments you can make. For that reason, we’ve designed financing options that ensure treatment is accessible and affordable. You can spread payments out over time as it works best in your budget. Our payment plans can be extended beyond the duration of your treatment. And, instead of charging interest that will ultimately cost you more, we offer interest-free financing.
It is also beneficial to work with an orthodontist who participates with your insurance, rather than one that simply accepts it. This will not only reduce your costs, making treatment more affordable but also save you the hassle of dealing with the associated paperwork. Adirondack Orthodontics is proud to be the only orthodontic practice in the Capital Region that is a participating insurance provider with almost every insurer, so we are uniquely suited to provide a seamless experience.
There is no better time to invest in your oral health and achieve the stunning smile you’ve always wanted. Contact us to schedule a complimentary consultation, and we can start creating your beautiful and healthy new smile the same day!
How to Get the Most Out of Your Flexible Spending Account
When it comes to making orthodontic care affordable, planning ahead can make all the difference. While insurance typically covers a portion of the treatment, you’ll likely be responsible for some out-of-pocket expenses. One option that can significantly mitigate the cost of treatment is a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), which is available through your employer. As part of your employee benefits package, an FSA allows you to allot pre-tax dollars for eligible health care expenses.
Here’s how it works: before taxes are taken out of your paycheck, money is set aside in your FSA account. When you incur health care costs, the FSA money can be utilized. Eligible expenses include orthodontic treatment and prescriptions, as well as other out-of-pocket expenses such as deductibles, office visits, and dental office procedures. And, an FSA can be used not only for you but also for your eligible dependents and spouse.
FSAs have start and end dates, and the time in between is called the “plan year.” Typically, FSA accounts are funded around October or November of the current year, and go into effect on January 1 of the next year.
By thinking ahead about the cost of orthodontic care for you or your child, you can save for it at a pace that works for you. Best of all, by taking advantage of the benefits of an FSA, you are ensuring that you are able to offset healthcare costs, and doing so with pre-tax money.
Check with your employer to learn more about the deadline for funding your FSA, and then talk to us. At Adirondack Orthodontics, we can develop a plan that times treatments so you can maximize the benefits. Think of your FSA as a tool to help you to receive a beautiful smile that you can afford!
The Benefits of a Participating Provider
Want a smile that’s both beautiful and affordable? Your best choice is to work with a participating provider. At Adirondack Orthodontics, we are proud to be the only practice that participates with nearly every insurer in the Capital Region.
What does that mean? As a participating provider, we have negotiated and established fees with the insurance companies in advance, and agreed to accept those fees. As a result, your out-of-pocket costs are greatly reduced – depending on the plan, you may not have any – so your treatment is more affordable.
In addition, we take on the full responsibility of dealing with the insurance company, including collecting payment, throughout your treatment. For you, that means no paperwork, no claims to file, no phone calls to make; we do it all, so you can concentrate on achieving the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted.
That’s a huge difference from working with an accepting provider – one who accepts your insurance but does not participate with the insurer. Not only will you pay more out of pocket – since the insurance company does not cover the entire cost of service – you also have to pay up front and then wait to be reimbursed by the insurance company. And we all know how long that can take!
At Adirondack Orthodontics, our commitment to providing caring, personalized service to our patients goes beyond the orthodontic treatment. We strive to make the entire process both affordable and stress-free, and as a participating provider, we have done just that for thousands of Capital Region families.
Call us today for a free consultation. We’d love to show you the power of working with a participating provider!
Giving the Gift of Smiles to Capital Region Children
Everyone, especially our children, deserves access to quality orthodontic care. Crooked teeth, overcrowding, underbites, and overbites can cause a lifetime of painful and expensive dental problems, not to mention the impact these issues can have on self-esteem.
Over the years, we have seen many children across the Capital Region who suffer from severe dental issues that can only be solved by braces. Unfortunately, many insurance providers don’t cover the cost, and as a result, families that can’t afford to pay out of pocket are forced to forego treatment for their children.
At Adirondack Orthodontics, we find this to be unacceptable – and we decided to do something about it by investing in the lives of local children in our community who need a helping hand. During the holiday season, we provided a gift that will truly put a smile on their faces: giving away free braces to children in need.
We were proud to team up with Smiles Change Lives, an international nonprofit that helps provide orthodontic treatment for kids whose parents can’t afford the full cost of braces. After more than 100 children were screened for eligibility, 25 were chosen to receive treatment. With a value of $150,000, this is the largest-ever donation of braces to kids in the Capital Region.
To Dr. Sergey Berenshteyn and the caring professionals that are part of our team, the value of this program was priceless. We saw firsthand how much a healthy smile could change a child’s life, and took great joy in turning dreams into reality for so many worthy children and wonderful families.
This type of community support typifies what Adirondack Orthodontics is all about. We believe every patient should receive caring, personalized attention and custom orthodontic solutions using the most advanced equipment. Regardless of your economic situation, you can be assured of receiving the highest level of care from our team.
Nothing should stand between you or your child and straight, beautiful teeth. We encourage you to contact us to learn more about our interest-free payment options, flexible payment plans, and discounts, and to schedule your free initial consultation. Click here to get started!
