Am I An Invisalign Candidate?
Invisalign is a popular treatment option – it’s more flexible and versatile than many traditional forms of orthodontic treatment. Have you ever found yourself trying to hide your smile in photographs? Or lacking confidence because of crooked teeth? If so, Invisalign may be the perfect treatment option for you. While Invisalign is a great option for most patients, it’s not for everyone. We recommend more traditional treatment options in the following cases:
- Smokers – Smoking will stain and discolor aligners. You shouldn’t smoke anyway, but if you do, you should consider other treatment options.
- Those unwilling to commit to the program – The Invisalign program requires wearing and switching aligners as instructed. If you’re unwilling or unable to wear them for roughly 22 hours each day, you will not get the most out of your treatment.
- Those with severe oral issues – If you experience a severe over- or underbite, more serious concerns likely exist. Our experts can assess the state of your mouth to determine the best treatment option for you.
People from all walks of life love the discreet aspect of Invisalign treatment. Schedule an appointment today to review your options and see if it’s the best choice for you.

The Invisalign® Palatal Expander System
The Invisalign Palatal Expander System can set your child up for orthodontic success!
A bite that is too narrow can result in bite alignment issues and overcrowded teeth. Made for kids ages 6 – 11, this system of expanders can help widen the jaw if it’s too narrow for their permanent teeth to come in. Palatal expanders were first introduced in the 1950s and used to work by using a key to crank the appliance wider, creating stress for both parents and kids. Invisalign’s system uses a series of 3D printed expanders to put gentle pressure on the upper palate. Since Invisalign’s expander process is less painful than traditional ones, this system reduces anxiety in patients compared to traditional expanders. Adirondack Orthodontics can make sure your child has the space they need for all their adult teeth, all while making the process as comfortable as possible. We can help with all of your dental alignment needs using the most effective treatments available.
Schedule NowInvisalign® for Kids
Invisalign offers a number of advantages specifically for kids, including:
- Comfort – Invisalign aligners are clear and comfortable, which make them easy to use, even for very young children.
- Replaceable – Kids lose things; we get it. Invisalign aligners are very easy to replace if they get lost. We usually won’t have to rescan or take a mold of your child’s teeth.
- Removable – Clear aligners are taken out during meals so there is no need to change your child’s food selection as you would with traditional braces.
- Hygiene – Since aligners are removed for meals, your child can also clean their teeth before putting them back in. This will help maintain cleaner, healthier teeth.

- Confidence – Without a mouth full of metal, your teen will feel more confident in his or her smile and personal appearance.
- Eat What They Want – Your teen will have complete freedom when it comes to food. All they have to do is remove the aligners when eating.
- Hygiene – Since your teen removes the aligners while eating, they also have an opportunity to make sure they brush and floss.
Invisalign® for Adults
Invisalign has many distinct advantages for adults, including:
- Discretion – Clear aligners are not obvious and can even be removed. This makes many adults feel more comfortable about straightening their teeth in the workplace.
- Treatment Duration – Invisalign programs typically do not take as long as traditional braces. It’s never too late to get the smile that you’ve always wanted.
- Flexibility – Invisalign aligners are removable, allowing you to eat your favorite foods while they are removed.

Invisalign® FAQ
How often must I wear my aligners?
You must wear your aligners for approximately 22 hours every day. You only remove them to eat, drink, and brush and floss your teeth. Remember, to get the best results you must wear your aligners as directed!
Are there any eating restrictions I must follow during treatment?
No. As long as you remove the aligners before you eat, you can eat what you like. However, you should always brush your teeth and clean the aligners before putting them back in.
Will wearing the aligners affect my speech?
There is always an adjustment period when beginning orthodontic treatment. The more you speak with your aligners in, the faster you will adjust. Invisalign aligners are surprisingly comfortable and most patients get used to them very quickly.
Does Invisalign treatment take longer?
No. Your treatment time will depend on the severity of the misaligned teeth. We find that many patients have a shorter treatment time with Invisalign than they would have had with braces. Many patients can have straight teeth in 6-18 months, which is on par with traditional braces.
How frequently will I have to visit the orthodontist while in treatment?
We create a customized treatment plan based on your needs. Normally, we suggest visits at 4- to 8-week intervals. Your aligners are switched every 7 to 10 days and given to you in advance. However, if you are attending college away from home, we can provide enough aligners to last the entire semester. Or, if you travel frequently for work, we can work around your schedule.
So, whether you see us once a month or need more time between appointments, we will make it work.
What happens after treatment is complete? Will I need to wear a retainer?
We recommend that all orthodontic patients wear their retainers at night indefinitely. Sleeping with your retainer(s) at night will help ensure that your bite and the position of your teeth remain healthy and correct. This is true whether your treatment was completed with Invisalign or traditional braces.
Does Invisalign work for kids?
Absolutely! Invisalign can be a great option for kids and teens. Even if your child’s adult teeth haven’t all come in yet, we can still use Invisalign as an early treatment option.
Are treatment results with Invisalign as good with traditional braces?
Yes! Once your treatment is complete, the results you’ll get with Invisalign should be identical to the ones you would have received with braces.
Will people be able to tell I had Invisalign treatment?
The only way someone would know if you had Invisalign treatment is if you tell them.
We encourage you to schedule a free consultation today to learn more! And if you’re ready, we will get started the same day!
