Orthodontic Treatment Options
Braces and Aligners for a Better Smile
At Adirondack Orthodontics, we offer comprehensive orthodontic treatments for patients of all ages. There is no right or wrong time to begin orthodontic treatment; however, we have found that by starting certain treatments early, even before adult teeth have erupted, we can alleviate some issues and shorten future treatment time. We may even be able to eliminate the need for some treatments altogether!
Orthodontic appliances are generally broken up into two categories: those which are fixed (glued onto your teeth) and those which are removable. Here at Adirondack Orthodontics, we offer metal braces, clear braces, and Invisalign®.
Invisalign® has become synonymous with the practice of using clear aligners to straighten teeth, and it may be the right choice for you. Invisalign® and other clear aligners are a great way to subtly straighten your teeth without interfering with your life.
Trusted by thousands each year, Invisalign® and other clear aligners provide adults, teens, and children with an alternative to metal braces that enable teeth to be straightened without having permanent fixtures in your mouth.
If you are looking for a discreet orthodontic option, clear braces are another alternative. These braces are generally made from porcelain and blend in with your teeth.
The main difference between clear braces and metal braces is aesthetic; clear braces are applied and work in much the same way as metal ones. You even have a choice when it comes to the color of your bands. Select clear bands for an ultra-discreet appearance, or opt for colored ones and watch your chosen colors pop!
Best of all, clear braces are often surprisingly affordable. If you are interested in learning more, just let us know. We’ll go over the entire treatment process and help you decide if this is the best option for you.
Metal braces are among the most commonly used orthodontic appliances because they can correct a wide range of issues, including:
- Over / Underbites
- Crooked Teeth
- Improperly Aligned Teeth
- Gapped Teeth
Our orthodontist will apply the brackets to the surfaces of your teeth using orthodontic glue. Once the glue has set, wires and colored ties are placed on the brackets. The metal braces work by applying continuous pressure to slowly move your teeth into the desired positions.
Today’s metal braces are smaller, smoother, and more comfortable than ever before. The brightly colored ties allow you to express your personality, and they are very cost-effective. You’ll be enjoying a brilliant and straight smile before you know it!
Typical braces are placed on the front of the teeth, and that makes them very conspicuous. Lingual braces, however, are placed on the back of the teeth. This makes them a super discreet option, which is why they’re starting to become more popular. As long as the teeth are big enough to support the brackets and wires, lingual braces can work well for children, teens, and adults.
While lingual braces are becoming more popular, not every provider is able to offer them. Orthodontists need special training to be able to apply them correctly, even though the principles of tooth movement are the same. Adirondack Orthodontics is proud to be one of the few providers in the Capital Region that offer this innovative option. Let’s have a conversation about whether lingual braces are right for you.
